Confirmation

Confirmation is about getting to know God more, exploring what you believe and what it means to be a Christian, and talking about faith with friends and family and applying it to life!

At Lord of Life, the Lutheran tradition of Confirmation is closely associated to the sacrament of Holy Baptism. In baptism, we are made children of God and are received into God’s family in Jesus Christ. When parents bring their children to be baptized, they make a promise to live with their children among God’s people, to bring them to worship at God’s house, to share the Word of God with them, and to teach them the foundations of the Christian faith so that their children may come to love, trust, and serve God and Christ.

In partnering with parents/guardians to fulfill their promises, during the confirmation process, the church teaches students the basics of faith, provides opportunity for students to ask questions and discuss faith with peers and adults, encourages students to engage in service, and connects students to pastors, mentors, and others to support them in their spiritual journey. This preparation enables students to be grounded in faith and knowledge of God’s Word and love so that at the conclusion of the confirmation experience they are ready to be confirmed.

At the rite of Confirmation, students recognize and affirm their baptism and take personal responsibility for living out the promises their parents made at their baptism. As an adult member of Christ’s family, Confirmands express their intentions to live among God’s faithful people, to hear the word of God and share in the Lord’s Supper, to proclaim the good news of God in Christ through word and deed, to serve all people, following the example of Jesus, and to strive for justice and peace in all the earth. They also vote at congregational meetings, and continue to be encouraged to worship and serve in the church and beyond.  They are greatly supported by family and the church community in their walk of faith and in fulfilling the promises they make to God at their rite of confirmation.

Serving Dinner at the Hypothermia Shelter at the Fairfax Campus
 

The 8th grade Confirmation class will prepare and serve dinner on Tuesday, February 5 and the 7th grade Confirmation class will prepare and serve dinner on Thursday, February 7.  FACET requires that one parent/guardian accompany their youth while volunteering.  Thus, this will be a great opportunity to work side-by-side with your youth and then have caring conversations about the experience afterwards.  Every youth must also have a signed permission slip to volunteer.
