A Three-Year Journey and More

Lord of Life’s three-year journey began in Fall 2011 with a Faith Formation campaign led by the Faith Formation team of Lord of Life to help people strengthen their relationships with God. The Marks of Discipleship challenges people to pray daily; worship weekly; read the Bible; serve at and beyond Lord of Life; build caring relationships; and give of my time, talent, treasure. A sermon series highlighted each of these habits of faith with accompanying resources and a list of opportunities to go deeper in each of these disciplines. You can listen to these sermons by going clicking on “sermons” on our website. At the culmination of the kick-off of the three-year journey, all are challenged to create a personal faith growth plan by using the opportunities found in the Marks of Discipleship booklet.  MD DISCIPLESHIP BOOKLET

Over the next three years, two of these Marks of Discipleship will be emphasized each year at Lord of Life through sermon series, programming, and resourcing. The plan is the following:

2011 – 2012: Relationships and Prayer
2012 – 2013: Worship and the Bible
2013 – 2014: Serving and Giving

It is anticipated that this emphasis on the Marks of Discipleship will recur each year in a fresh way to continue to move us deeper in faith and service to God and one another.

Fall 2011 Marks of Discipleship Personal Plan Booklet

“They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.” Acts 2:42

How do we grow in our spiritual life?  How can we put faith practices into our daily lives that will make an impact not only on our lives but the lives of others?

Jesus provides a guide for us. He says, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life.” When Jesus said, “Follow me,” he meant it. The practices of Jesus have been recognized for centuries as the core activities of the spiritual life. Lord of Life calls them Marks of Discipleship: pray daily; worship weekly; read the Bible; serve at and beyond Lord of Life; build caring relationships; and give of my time, talent, treasure.

At the conclusion of our Fall sermon series, folks were asked to create a personal Faith Growth Plan by filling out the Marks of Discipleship Booklet.  This Booklet offers opportunities to explore ways to go deeper into each of the Marks of Discipleship and expand our connection with God. If you have not filled one out, please do.  Booklets can still be found in the Church office.

We are eternal beings but sometimes we lose sight of eternal living. We spend time, energy, and money on our physical needs but neglect our souls. We are meant to be in a relationship with God and others in a way that is dynamic, whole, and fresh every day. These Marks of Discipleship help us envision a balanced spiritual life.
